What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is a martial arts concept with ancient Chinese roots. Its name is Mandarin for “Supreme Ultimate Boxing,” yet modernized Tai Chi movements designed for exercise are used less for defense training and more for relaxation and improved health. Our Tai Chi looks like slow, choreographed dance moves that flow from one to the next.
What is Qigong?
Qigong (Chi Kung) is another Chinese practice that emphasizes posture and breathing techniques for health benefits and meditation training. Its name means “to cultivate energy” – the Chinese believe there is a life force that flows through the universe, including our bodies. Qigong classes are calm and quiet, as we transition between spiritual poses.
Benefits of Tai Chi & Qigong
Often, we see older individuals practicing because it helps ease the pain of arthritis and fibromyalgia, but younger people can practice as well.
Both concepts help with balance, reduce stress and can help relieve pain throughout the body. Similar to the principles of yoga, these exercise programs relieve us of everyday anxiety by calming the mind, body and spirit through gentle movements.
All of our Tai Chi classes include Qigong exercises and we periodically present Qigong workshops where we offer teachings in a number of ancient Qigong styles. Do you have stress in your life? Part-1 – Qigong Fundamentals and Balancing the Body’s Energy (Recommended)
Scheduled: May 2, 9, 16 & 23, 2018
The cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine is seeking balance in the body’s energy system and eliminating excesses, deficiencies and stagnation. This workshop includes Qi Gong fundamentals and an overview of the body’s energy system (Vessels, Channels and Collaterals) and uses this framework to aid in better understanding how energy balancing works. Learn simple stance, movement and breathing techniques to help balance your body’s energy for improved health and emotional balance. Come away with some simple exercises to help balance your Qi (life force energy) and a sense of how Qi Gong can play a role in your long-term health and well-being.
