The Power of Your Plate: Introduction to Plant-Based Eating

More than one-third of adults in the U.S. are obese – a condition that can lead to many other health problems including diabetes, heart disease, and even increase one’s cancer risk. We will discuss how and why plant-based diets are beneficial for health in a multitude of ways. Suggestions and tips for plant-based breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snack foods are offered. The food we consume daily directly affects our mood, athletic performance and energy level.  Teens are particularly vulnerable to marketing campaigns and peer pressure that encourage them to eat foods that negatively affect their health and can cause issues with self-esteem and weight.  In this class, you will learn about health promoting, nutrient rich foods to optimize your family’s well-being. If you are one of the 50.2% of Americans who are single, know that cooking for one does not have to relegate you to a life of cold cereal, ramen noodles or microwave options.  Cooking should be fun, creative, and enjoyable.  In this class, we will discuss benefits and challenges of cooking for one, and many suggestions to get you motivated to make delicious meals. Cravings: Breaking the Food Seduction – Thursday, 11/2, 7:15-8:45 pm, $25

Ever wonder why after eating copious amounts of certain foods, you still crave more? It’s related to how these foods influence our brain chemistry. Discover how some foods are unfavorable for healthy weight management as well as why they have addictive qualities. Suggestions on how to best avoid the temptation of these foods are discussed.
